Darius Philon commits to Alabama

Darius Philon, defensive end from Prichard-Vigor, Ala., committed Thursday morning to the University of Alabama. Philon received an offer from the Tide after attending camp in Tuscaloosa.

Darius Philon had originally committed to Auburn University at the end of May, but de-committed from the Tigers at the beginning of August. The decision to switch SEC schools came one month later on the first day of September.

Vigor High School has sent other top prospects to Alabama in the past couple of years including Marvin Shinn, Jalston Fowler and B.J. Scott.

Philon is one of the most explosive players in the state. He is very quick and aggressive coming off the ball and a relentless pass rusher. Philon had 89 tackles for the Wolves in 2010.

Philon was recruited by the coaching staff to play defensive end. He enjoyed working with the Tide's new defensive line coach, Chris Rumph.

"Coach Rumph is a real good coach," Philon said in an earlier interview. "He coaches you hard. He is always on top of you trying to help make you better. When you do something wrong he isn't going to fuss at you. He is going to help you. He wants to help you become a better football player. He is a man."
