Alabama: Recruiting notebook

Andrew Bone has the latest recruiting news for Crimson Tide fans including the status of Amari Cooper, the next commitment, and five-stars from outside the region with interest in Alabama.

Amari Cooper

When will the four-star wide receiver from Miami-Northwestern announce his decision? Cooper was scheduled to announce August 26th following his first game. Northwestern lost that night, and Cooper did not feel justified in focusing on his decision. Alabama and Florida State remain in his top two, but West Virginia has recently become very involved in the recruitment. Cooper wants to visit Morgantown before making a decision. He does not have a time-frame for an announcement.

Beniquez Brown

The four-star, from Florence, Ala., has been saying he will commit in a "couple of weeks" for almost two months. The chances of Brown announcing before October are very high. He has favored Alabama since the spring, but Mississippi State has done a great job with his recruitment. His cousin, Kivon Coman, is a commitment to the Bulldogs. Brown will take his first season visit to Tuscaloosa on Saturday when Alabama hosts Arkansas.

Kurt Freitag

The three-star tight end, from Buford, Ga. was scheduled to announce his college decision September 10th, but decided to delay. Freitag plans to take official visits to Alabama, Florida and Florida State before announcing his decision. He visited Florida State this past weekend and will take an official visit to Alabama this weekend. He also plans to attend the Florida/Alabama game in Gainesville. His teammate, Dillon Lee, is a Tide commitment.

Darius Hamilton

The five-star defensive end, from Ramsey-Don Bosco Prep, N.J., has Alabama as one of his top five schools. Alabama is a longshot for the East Coast star, but a visit to Tuscaloosa can change things. Hamilton's top five consists of Alabama, Florida, Oregon, Rutgers and Tennessee. He will announce his college decision December 23rd.

Eddie Goldman

The five-star defensive tackle, from Washington, DC-Edison Friendship, took his first official visit this past weekend to Florida State. The Seminoles are considered the team to beat. Goldman also plans to visit Alabama, Auburn and Miami. He has not set an official visit to Alabama just yet, but possibly November 5th vs. LSU.

Dalvin Tomlinson

The four-star defensive tackle, from McDonough-Henry County, Ga., visited Tuscaloosa a few weeks ago, and he plans to return for the Arkansas game. "Alabama is towards the top of my list, Tomlinson told "Georgia Tech, Clemson, Mississippi State, Florida, and some others are up there with Alabama too. I do not have a leader or anything yet, but I am starting to think about that more." Alabama, Georgia Tech and Indiana are recruiting him the hardest at this point.

A list of prospects will post throughout the week who plan to attend Saturday's game in Tuscaloosa against Arkansas.
