Saban Calls Florida Game ‘Team Win'

Alabama Coach Nick Saban and his staff will name Crimson Tide players of the game for the Bama's win over Florida. But on Saturday night Saban said he could not single out a player for his performance in the Crimson Tide's 38-10 victory in Gainesville.

"I think this is a great team win," Alabama Coach Nick Saban said. "I don't think you can single out one player. I don't think you can go in the locker room and single out one player.

"I am talking about the coaching staff, everyone in our organization, the fans that were here. Everybody tht is on our team did a fantastic job and I would hesitate to single out just about anybody because everyone did a fantastic job."

Courtney Upshaw?

"He played great," Saban said.

Trent Richardson?

"He played great," Saban said, "but I think he would be the first one to tell you the offensive line was making big holes."

Saban said, "The goal tonight was to attack and be aggressive from the very beginning. I think we may have been a little too hyped up at the beginning of the game. We made some mistakes defensively, but it really shows the resiliency of our team. To give up a 65-yard touchdown (on the first play of the game), and from that point on play the way we played, I think this was a great team win for us.

"Offensively, we controlled the line of scrimmage. The offensive line did a fantastic job, and Trent obviously did a very good job of running the ball.

"Defensively, once we settled down after the first couple of drives, I thought we played a lot better. We made some adjustments and went to the zone defense. I think that was a real key for us.

"When we needed to make plays, we always made them."

Saban emphasized that he thinks Alabama can improve. He also pointed out that he thinks Florida "is a hard place to play. Florida is a great program. Will Muschamp has done a fantastic job with this team. They played hard out there and were really ready to play. It was a real challenge to overcome that at the beginning, but I was really pleased with how our guys kept competing.

"That's the way you have to play on the road."

Saban said quarterback A.J. McCarron, who didn't have an exceptional game statistically, "did a really good job managing the game with some rough crowd noise." The coach said he thought that Alabama's earlier game at Penn State had helped McCarron with the noise in Gainesville.

He added, "There are a lot of things we can do better, but this is about as good as it gets."

Florida Coach Will Muschamp said, "We got beat by a better team tonight. We were inconsistent in stopping the run in the first half. They're a great football team, and you can't afford to make mistakes."

He said the Crimson Tide defense is "a physical group. They did a nice job."
