Marlon Humphrey returning to Tuscaloosa

Marlon Humphrey, cornerback from Hoover, Ala,, is having a terrific season and established himself as one of the premier 2014 recruits in the Southeast. He had another great performance last Friday night against undefeated Bob Jones returning a kickoff for a touchdown. Humphrey is among the invited guests this weekend in Tuscaloosa. Andrew Bone has the latest news..

"Coach told us we had to limit them to less points," Marlon Humphrey said about the game against Bob Jones. "We tried to do our best on D. We played well. The kickoff return was good. We had some good blocks and executed."

Hoover starting quarterback Sam Gillikin is out for the playoffs after suffering an injury. The Bucs have a back-up who is starting to find his rhythm.

"Our quarterback, Connor Short, has stepped up and is playing good," Humphrey said. "He is filling Sam's shoes. The only thing he lacks is Sam's running ability. He makes up for it with his arm.

"We are feeling really good heading into the playoffs. We play Hewitt-Trussville this week. We need five wins to be state champs and get back to our standard."

Humphrey will take another unofficial visit to Alabama this weekend.

"I am going down to game," Humphrey said. "It's going to be a good one. A national championship caliber game. I will be watching No. 7 [Tyrann Mathieu] and Dre [Kirkpatrick]. I will see who does better of those two. I think Alabama is probably going to win. LSU is probably the only team in the country who could beat them though."
