Tide Coaches Pick Eight As Honorees

Eight Alabama players were recognized by the coaching staff following the Crimson Tide's 42-14 victory at Auburn. Trent Richardson, Brad Smelley and William Vlachos were named players of the week on offense while Dont'a Hightower, Dee Milliner and Courtney Upshaw represented the defense. On special teams, Milliner, Cody Mandell and Alex Watkins were selected.

Trent Richardson rushed for a career-high 203 yards on 27 carries and scored on a five-yard reception to pace the Alabama offense. Richardson has 23 touchdowns on the year and leads the SEC (sixth nationally) with an average of 131.9 yards per game. He was also named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week and the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

William Vlachos had the top grade on the offensive line at 97 percent, which tied for the highest of any UA offensive lineman this season. He did not allow a sack or a pressure, and had no missed assignments or penalties.

Brad Smelley led all receivers with six catches for 86 yards and one touchdown. His 35-yard TD catch with 4:25 remaining in the first quarter put the Tide up 14-0.

Dont'a Hightower was credited with a team-best nine tackles (six solo) with one tackle for loss.

Courtney Upshaw had six total stops (five solo), including two sacks, three TFL and one QB hurry.

Demarcus Milliner was tied for second with Upshaw in tackles with six (four solo) and put the game away with a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown that made the score 35-14. UA held Auburn to just two first downs and 44 yards through the first three quarters as the Tigers finished the day with 140 total yards.

Alabama leads the nation in all four major defensive categories and could become the first team since Oklahoma in 1986 to accomplish that feat.

Cody Mandell had three punts for 121 yards and a 40.3 average. He had a long of 44 and one inside the 20.

Dee Milliner was a gunner on punt team and helped force fair catches on each of the punts as Auburn had no punt return yardage in the game. He also played on kickoff coverage and punt return.

Alex Watkins was in on two tackles on kickoff coverage according to the coaches.
