Darren Lake returns from Tuscaloosa

Darren Lake, three-star defensve tackle from York-Sumter Central, Ala., was one of several Alabama commitments who took official visits this weekend to Tuscaloosa. He talked with Andrew Bone about the trip.

"It was real nice up there," said Darren Lake. "I had a lot of fun with the team and the coaches. They treated me really well.

"The coahes treated me like I was part of the championship team. I liked it a lot. My host was Trey DePriest. He was real nice. He is just a freshman. He told me when I get up there it's all about business.

"The first day we were there we went to dinner with coach Saban and everyone. We went out with the players that night. The next morning we went to the fooball complex. We watched video with the coaches and chilled with the staff. Everything was good."

Lake, who scored a 25 on his ACT, talked with the coaches about academics.

"The coaches were really just telling me I need to focus on my grades and academics," he said. "Coach Saban talked to me about my grades. He is ready for me to get up there. He wants me to get up there.

"I spent a lot of time with coach Rumph. I love him. He also told me to keep doing well in the classroom. He is ready to work with me. They want to push us to reach our goals."

The 6-foot-3, 340-pounder enjoyed Sunday morning at Coach Saban's house.

"My favorite part of the trip was going to coach Saban's house this morning," said Lake. "I enjoyed riding four wheelers and hanging out down by the lake. It was a lot of fun."

Lake talked about watching the Crimson Tide win the national championship.

"It was great," he said. "I really liked that. I knew before the game they were going to win it. It's really exciting as a player knowing I am going there next year."

The Tide commtiment participated in the Semper Fi All-American game where he was a standout throughout the week.

"The game was really nice," Lake said. "New players and new things. I felt like I did all right. Coach Rumph said he can't wait to work with me. He is going to help me with my hand placement, technique and quickness when I get there."
