Geno Smith talks visit, Lance Thompson

Geno Smith, four-star cornerback from Atlanta-St. Piius X, Ga., took an offcial visit to the University of Alabama this past weekend. Smith talked about the trip to and eagerness to arrive at the Capstone. He also discussed Lance Thompson who tried to recruit Smith to Tennessee.

"It was a lot of fun," said Geno Smith said of his time in Tuscalosoa. "My mom and grandma went down with me. I got a chance to hang out with some of my future teammates. It was a good time.

"The food was really good down there. We ate good all weekend. I would say having the chance to bond and hang out with future teammates was the best part of my trip.

"My host for the weekend was T.J. Yeldon. It was a lot of fun hanging out with him. We met in San Antonio at the U.S. Army game. We were roommates. We already had a relationship and just added on to it. I also hung out with Justin Taylor, Alphonse Taylor and Ryan Anderson.

"Another cool thing we did this weekend was have breakfast at coach Saban's house. We did that this morning. He told us before camp starts we are going to have a big cookout. That should be really fun."

Smith spent a lot of time with his future coaches during the visit.

"I spoke with coach Saban today," he said. "He talked about the defense and where they stand with cornerbacks. I spent a lot of time with coach Pruitt. He just talked about coverages. He said in the spring he will send me a package and help get me ready since I didn't enroll early."

The nation's No. 8 cornerback was excited to see the Crimson Tide capture the BCS crown.

"It was a great game for Alabama fans," Smith said. "That was expected. They could have easily done it November th5. It was pretty cool watching them knowing I have a chance to be there next year.

It is being reported that Alabama has hired Lance Thompson from Tennessee to become the new linebackers coach in Tuscaloosa. He recruited the Atlanta area and tried to lure Smith to Knoxville.

"He is a cool guy," said Smith. "I know he was once at Alabama and now coming from Tennessee. He was the one who recruited me for Tennessee. It's cool that he is now on Alabama's staff."
