Early Enrollee: Alphonse Taylor

Alphonse Taylor, rated a four-star lineman from Mobile-Davidson, Ala., flipped his commitment to the Crimson Tide just before the dead period in December.

Alphonse Taylor surprised several when he suddenly de-committed from Florida State after the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Classic. Taylor had been a solid commitment to the Seminoles, but wanted the opportunity to play on the defensive front in college rather than on offensive line.

The 6-foot-6, 350-pounder is a monster on the field. He is nimble on his feet and athletic for his size. Alabama is looking for a replacement in the middle for departing senior Josh Chapman in their 3-4 defense which relies heavily on the man in the middle.

Taylor arrived early in Tuscaloosa for the spring semester. He may need a year in the program and weight room to develop his skills as a defensive lineman if he does remain on that side of the ball.
