Tigers Get Another Chance At Tide

Remember when that Tyrannosaurus Rex came into the gym and stomped the vault apparatus to the size of a cell phone and there was all sorts of panic and... Okay, so that didn't happen. But you'd have to have a memory that long to recall Alabama starting its gymnastics winning streak against Auburn. The Tigers get another chance this week.

The Alabama gymnastics team of Coach Sarah Patterson can remind the Auburn faithful of Crimson Tide national championships as Bama goes to Auburn for a 7 p.m. CST Friday meet. Alabama is defending national champion in gymnastics.

Coming off a win at the Penn State Quad Meet, Alabama is ranked sixth nationally this week while junior Ashley Sledge jumped one spot in the vault rankings, landing at number one.

Arkansas and UCLA are tied for No. 1 in the team rankings, followed by No. 3 Utah, No. 4 Nebraska and No. 5 Oklahoma. Following the Tide at No. 6 is Georgia in seventh and Florida in eighth. Penn State, who hosted Alabama's first road meet of the season last Saturday, is at No. 9 while Oregon State rounds out the top-10. The Tide's next opponent, Auburn, checks in at No. 16.

Alabama is ranked second in the vault, seventh in floor exercise, 10th in the balance beam and 12th in the uneven bars.

In addition to being No. 1 on the vault, Sledge is ranked tenth in the all-around. Senior Geralen Stack-Eaton, who was ranked No. 1 a week ago, is second on the vault this week while junior Marissa Gutierrez and sophomore Diandra Milliner are 14th and 19th respectively on the vault. Senior Ashley Priess is ranked ninth on the uneven bars.

Alabama's next home meet is Friday, February 3, against the Florida Gators. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) and online at RollTide.com.
