Walker Jones talks Alabama offer
"I talked to the coaches when I first got there," said Walker Jones. "They told me I needed to go meet with coach Saban. We waited outside of his office while he was meeting with some other prospects. My mom and I then met with him.
"Coach Saban told me what they thought about me. He told me I can play at this level. He said I have the athleticism. He said he wasn't sure though if I would play H-Back or linebacker. They want me to come to camp to figure it out. He then said I have an offer to play at Alabama.
"It felt great to get an offer from him. It was so exciting. Alabama is one of the best programs in the nation. Anytime a program like that tells you they have an offer for you it's very exciting."
Jones comes from an Alabama Crimson Tide family with two brothers on the team (Barrett Jones who won the Outland Trophy, Harrison Jones a redshirt freshman) and a father (Rex) who played basketball for the Tide. Give their mom, Leslie, a lot of credit for raising all the boys. Walker is not in a hurry to make a decision.
"I am definitely still open," Jones said. "I went to look at everyone equally and weigh my options. I will probably wait and make my decision late in the summer. I plan on going to some camps."
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect talked more about his Junior Day visit.
"It was awesome," Jones said. "I talked to all the coaches, mainly coach Groh and coach Smart. We had a position meeting with coach Smart. We watched drills to see what we would be doing when we get there. We built relationships with them and toured all the facilities.
"The best part of the trip was mainly getting to know the coaches more. The times I have been down there it was on game days. It was good to see them relaxed and good to see what they are like off the field.
