Strengths/Improvements: "I see myself playing linebacker in college. Alabama coaches have talked to me about linebacker, safety and even H-Back. It doesn't matter to me. I think I will play linebacker. They were talking to me about H-Back, linebacker, running back and safety. It doesn't matter to me, but think linebacker is where I will play. I feel like I will grow into a middle linebacker. I have good instincts and quick to the football."
Why Alabama: "It's exciting to go to Alabama. I didn't know I would ever be in this situation. It's a dream come true. I liked a lot of stuff about Alabama. I think the academics at Alabama are really good. They are high on academics at Alabama. They have one-on-one tutoring available for you. I really like that. When I committed I was just ready to get my commitment out of the way. I knew where I wanted to go. Alabama has great coaches and great academics."
Coach Quotes: "He's been good for us," said Thomasvile head coach Jack Hankins. "He started on defense since he was in ninth grade. He's been a lot of fun, a very hardworking and unselfish player.
"He's just a super, super gifted athlete. He plays offense, defense, he returns kicks, and he's an outstanding punter. He's versatile. He can do just about anything you need for him to do.
"I hope that when he leaves Thomasville he takes a little piece of all of us with him, and he can be a successful human being as well as football player.
"He's got a very outgoing personality. I don't think he's ever met a stranger. He can get along and talk to anybody in the world. He's fun. He will talk to anybody, and it doesn't take him long to warm up to you....He did a lot for us. We are going to miss him a lot."
Andrew Bone says: "Tyler Hayes was a do-it-all player and helped Thomasville win the Class 4A state championship in 2010. He has played, linebacker, safety, running back, wide receiver, kicker, punter, kick return and punt return. He is a to- tier athlete who has excellent size and ability. He can become a star on either side of the ball playing linebacker, safety or H-Back.
"He does a great job pursuing to the football as a linebacker. He has great natural instincts and is a physical tackler. He has offensive skills with great running and catching ability. He has a good burst and is natural playmaker. He should excel at any position at Alabama."
