Alabama Basketball At LSU Saturday
Alabama has won three straight games to improve to 16-7 overall and 5-4 in the SEC after defeating Auburn, 68-50, on Tuesday night in Auburn. Meanwhile, LSU has lost four of its last five games to fall to 13-10 overall and 3-6 in the league. However, the Tigers are 3-1 in SEC home games this season with the lone loss coming to Kentucky.
In the first meeting between the two programs, UA defeated the Tigers, 69-53, in Tuscaloosa in a contest that saw UA guard Trevor Releford score a season-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting.
"The last time we played them we had some success and I think that we shot 50 per cent from the field," Alabama Coach Anthony Grant said of the first meeting with the Tigers. "So we will have to be ready for some defensive adjustments that they will make, and make sure that we do a better job of taking care of the basketball because we had 15 turnovers in that game."
The Tide's defense remains one of the top in the nation by allowing a scant 57.9 points per game this season, the 12th best average in the nation and the second best in the SEC while forcing its last three opponents into 17.7 turnovers per game.
Offensively, the Tide's bench has provided a spark with the reserves averaging 28.2 points per game over the last four games. Charles Hankerson, Jr. has helped generate that average of late with with a 10-point performance against Mississippi and a 14-point outing with a career-high three three-pointers against Auburn, all less than 10 days after undergoing knee surgery.
From the starters, JaMychal Green, who has surpassed the 1,500 career point mark, notched his SEC best 24th career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Mississippi and scored a team-high 19 points with four assists at Auburn. Green currently leads the Tide with 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
LSU, which is averaging 64.0 points per game in SEC games, is led by Justin Hamilton's 13.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. In the first meeting between the teams, he recorded 12 points and six rebounds. Anthony Hickey and Andre Stringer each average 9.9 points per game as well for the Tigers.
Following Saturday's contest, UA will return home to host Florida on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CST in Coleman Coliseum.
