Day one completed at NCAAs

University of Alabama senior All-American Latonel Williams took his first step toward his first ever National Championship.

Williams qualified for the semi-final round of the 100m dash at the 2003 NCAA Championships in Sacramento, California. However, Williams was unable to advance any further as he came up .03 of a second behind Sean Lambert of Tennessee for a spot in the finals.

Williams posted a time of 10.69 finishing fourth in his heat in the preliminaries. The top three from each heat along with the next six best times advanced to the semi-final round late Wednesday night where he posted a time of 10.51.

Elsewhere for the Tide, Peter Etoot posted a DNF in the 800m race and Isaac Robinson posted a mark of 22'06.25" in the long jump, missing the cut to go to the finals.

Williams and senior Peter Kiprono will be in action on Thursday. Williams will compete in the 200m sprint scheduled to begin at approximately 12:40 p.m. (CT) and Kiprono will compete in the 10k schedule to start at approximately 11:40 p.m. (CT).
