Traina Pitches Tide Past Oklahoma State
Alabama out-hit Oklahoma State (4-4) 12-1 and was led at the plate by the duo atop the lineup: Kayla Braud and Jazlyn Lunceford. The top two hitters in the lineup collected three hits apiece with Braud adding two stolen bases.
Junior Courtney Conley added two hits while sophomore Ryan Iamurri collected two hits and scored a run in her first start of the season.
Traina (5-0) needed only 95 pitches to down the 2011 WCWS team. The sophomore struck out seven and walked two, but did give up a solo home run.
Senior Cassie Reilly-Boccia continued her hot hitting on the weekend as she got the Crimson Tide off to a quick start with one swing of the bat in the first inning. The senior lined a solo home run off the scoreboard in left-center for her first on the year to give the Tide the early 1-0 lead.
Oklahoma State broke up the shutout and perfect game with one swing of the bat in the fourth. Kelsey Anchors touched Traina for a solo home run.
Alabama responded with two runs in the top of the fifth.
Senior catcher Kendall Dawson recorded her first hit of the season in a big way as she hit a solo shot over the wall in left to have the Tide retake the lead. UA then loaded the bases and sophomore Kaila Hunt increased the lead to the 3-1 advantage with a groundout to third that plated sophomore Ryan Iamurri.
Reilly-Boccia led Alabama over the tournament with a .667 (6-for-9) average, adding a home run and a team-best seven RBI. Braud closely followed with a .600 (6-for-10) clip, scoring four runs and swiping seven bases.
As a team, the Tide hit .379, hit five home runs and outscored its opponents 22-13. UA sported a 1.67 ERA, held opposing batters to a .213 hitting clip and was paced by the two wins by Traina.
Alabama will continue its road swing throughout the state as it will head to Birmingham to face UAB. The two teams will meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CST.
