Tide Women Beaten At Vanderbilt
"I thought we played with energy the entire game and played together as a team, but we didn't shoot the ball well," said Alabama Coach Wendell Hudson. "We thought we had some really good looks, but struggled offensively. It's tough to win when you have shooting woes like that."
Alabama will return to Nashville for the 2012 SEC Tournament, which begins on Thursday.
Sophomore Jasmine Robinson led Alabama in scoring with 16 points, while junior Kyra Crosby added 12. Junior Meghan Perkins finished with a team-high six rebounds.
Vanderbilt opened the game with six unanswered points and built as much as a 19-point lead in the first half. Alabama made eight of its 22 attempts from the floor over the opening 20 minutes and had 12 rebounds compared to the Commodores' 23 boards. Vanderbilt had 12 second chance points off its 10 offensive rebounds and outscored the Tide 20-4 in the paint in the first half. Vanderbilt would head into the locker room at the break with a 39-22 lead.
Alabama outscored the Commodores early on in the second half to cut the lead down to 12, but an 11-5 run by Vanderbilt extended it back out to an 18-point game. The Tide would again threaten at the 7:55 mark chipping the Commodore advantage down to 12. Vanderbilt responded with eight unanswered points over the next two minutes to send the game out of reach for Alabama.
For the game, the Commodores were 42.4 percent (25-for-59) from the floor, while the Tide was 33.3 percent (16-for-48) on its attempts. Vanderbilt out-rebounded Alabama 40-29, and hit 14 of its 15 free throws. The Tide had 29 attempts at the free throw line, but hit 19.
