Reaves Hits Tide Past South Alabama

An eighth inning two-run single by Jared Reaves boosted Alabama to a 4-3 victory over in-state opponent South Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Tuesday night. The win was the fourth in a row by the Crimson Tide, whose record now stands at 4-3. With the loss, South Alabama falls to 2-6.



Jake Hubbard (1-0) picked up the win for the Tide, as he pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings. Junior Ian Gardeck picked up the first save of his Alabama career, throwing a scoreless ninth inning.

Offensively, Alabama was led by Reaves, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Brett Booth, who had two RBI on a 1-for-3 night.

Alabama will play its first road game of the 2012 season on Wednesday when it travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., to take on the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. (CST) from Pete Taylor Field. The Tide will start sophomore right-hander Case Nixon (0-0, 0.00 ERA) and Southern Miss will counter with senior righty Andrew Pierce (0-1, 3.38 ERA).
