Fast UA Start Too Much For Terrapins
Alabama took advantage of 10 walks and banged out 12 hits to score the 19 runs. Senior Amanda Locke, sophomore Kaila Hunt and freshman Danielle Richard had two hits apiece. UA hit four home runs with Locke and Hunt adding four RBI each on the day.
Alabama scored 12 runs on four hits and walked nine times as the Crimson Tide brought 17 batters to the plate in the first inning. Hunt tallied four RBI in the frame on the strength of a three-run home run, her sixth homer on the year.
The Tide continued to pour it on as it plated four more in the second inning. Locke provided the big hit in the inning with a two-run homer that sailed well over the wall in left for her fifth home run on the year.
UA kept flexing its muscles offensively as back-to-back home runs increased the lead to 19-0. Sophomore Ryan Iamurri hit her first career home run, coming on an inside the park smash into right-center. Freshman Jadyn Spencer then lined a shot over the wall in left-center for her second blast in as many games.
Sophomore hurler Jackie Traina improved to 8-0 on the season as she struck out seven and allowed just two hits in three innings of work. Locke closed the door with two innings of one-hit relief.
Alabama will continue tournament play with two games on Saturday. UA will face UMass at 1:30 p.m., and Maryland again at 4 p.m.
