After Loss, Tide Gymnasts Move Up

Several times this year, Alabama has failed to advance with a victory. This week the Crimson Tide moved from fifth in the nation to fourth despite having suffered its only setback of the year, losing to second-ranked Oklahoma. The Sooners stayed second this week, a spot behind Florida -- a team Alabama defeated earlier in the season -- which remains number one.

The Alabama gymnastics team of Coach Sarah Patterson returns home to face No. 14 Missouri Friday at 7:30 p.m. CST.

This week's rankings are determined by the regional qualifying score. Because Bama had the nation's top road score of the season in falling to Oklahoma, Bama moved up a spot.

Florida and Oklahoma remain first and second for the third consecutive week. UCLA remained third. Georgia fell a spot to No. 5, followed by No. 6 Nebraska, No. 7 Utah, and No. 8 Arkansas. Oregon State and LSU are tied for No. 9 to round out the top ten.

The Tide is No. 2 on the vault again this week, but moved up two spots to third on the floor exercise. Alabama is ranked fifth on the balance beam and eighth on the uneven bars.

Individually, senior Ashley Priess is ninth on the balance beam and 12th on the uneven bars this week. Joining Priess in the uneven bars rankings is senior Geralen Stack-Eaton at No. 20. Sophomore Kim Jacob joins Priess in the balance beam rankings, coming in at No. 22.

Four Alabama vaulters are tied for 17th this week, including Stack-Eaton, junior Ashley Sledge, sophomore Diandra Milliner and junior Marissa Gutierrez. Gutierrez is also ranked 22nd on the floor exercise.

After back-to-back weeks on the road, Alabama returns home this Friday, when it will face Missouri in the Tide's Tornado Relief Meet in Coleman Coliseum. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum or online at
