Alabama Softball Improves To 18-0

The No. 1 ranked Alabama softball team capped off its homestand with a 7-3 victory over instate foe Samford, Wednesday night at Rhoads Stadium. With the win the Crimson Tide remains perfect with an 18-0 record.

Senior Cassie Reilly-Boccia tallied two hits and drove in three runs while freshman Leslie Jury struck out seven in six innings to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Alabama outhit Samford 9-6 with freshman Jadyn Spencer coming off the bench to collect two hits and two RBI.

Alabama once again got on the board early this time in a loud way as Reilly-Boccia drilled her third home run of the season. The senior deposited a two-run shot over the wall in right-center to give the Tide a 2-0 lead.

After senior Jennifer Fenton hit her eighth career triple to place her fourth in the UA career annals, Reilly-Boccia struck again. This time the Yorktown Heights, N.Y., native smacked a double down the line in right to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Tide pulled away in the fourth inning when it plated four runs. After senior Jazlyn Lunceford scored on an error, Spencer punched a single through the left side to score freshman Danae Hays and senior Olivia Gibson. Fenton then capped the scoring with a RBI groundout to short.

Samford scored three sixth inning runs to get on the board. Jury allowed the three runs on six hits and walked two. Senior Amanda Locke struck out two in a perfect seventh inning.

Alabama will hit the road for the week of spring break as it will open Southeastern Conference play at Kentucky. The two teams will open the series in Lexington on Friday, March 9 at 5 p.m. CT. UA will then head to Oregon for two games in the Pacific Northwest.
