Bama basketball headed to the Bahamas

TUSCALOOSA -- University of Alabama basketball coach Mark Gottfried will take most of his 2003-04 Crimson Tide players to Nassau to play five games in August. Alabama will play the Bahamian National team and the Bahamian Junior National teams.

In all five games will be played with playing dates set for Sunday, August 10, August 11, August 13, August 15 and August 16.

By NCAA rules, incoming freshmen are not allowed to make the trip or participate in the allowable 10 days of practice preceding an "overseas" trip.

"This is a year where we can benefit with some extra game experience and those ten days of practice," said Gottfried who lost three of his 2003 starters to graduation and a fourth, Mo Williams, declared for the NBA draft after his sophomore season. "We can really use this time and experience to help us improve for next season."

Alabama's games will be played at Sir Kendall Issac's Gym. Game times are TBA but will likely take place in the evenings. A detailed schedule will be released later, including information for fans who want to join the Tide in the Bahamas.
