Evan Mathis played for Homewood (Ala.) High School before signing with the University of Alabama for his college career. A four-year starter in Tuscaloosa Mathis redshirted his first year at the Capstone. Mathis played three years at the tackle position and made a move to left guard as a senior.
"Veteran free agent offensive guard Evan Mathis is staying with the Philadelphia Eagles on a five-year, $25 million contract after visiting the Baltimore Ravens and considering their offer," Aaron Wilson said of profootball.scout.com.

"Mathis is regarded as one of the top offensive guards on the free agent market.
"Mathis started 15 games last season for the Eagles and graded out as the top offensive guard, according to Pro Football Focus.
"Mathis is a former Carolina Panthers third-round draft pick from Alabama."
