Tide Softball Duo Take SEC Honors
The honor is a career first for Fenton while Traina nabbed the accolade in the circle for the second time. This marks the first time since Dani Woods and Stephanie VanBrakle on March 27, 2006, that two Crimson Tide players have earned both honors in the same week.
Fenton paced top-ranked Alabama at the plate with a .600 (6-for-10) average, scoring a team-high seven runs and swiping a team-best five bases. She also added a home run, four RBI and a .692 on base percentage. The senior had two multi-hit games and two multi-RBI contests during the week, stealing at least one base in three of the four contests.
After collecting a hit and scoring a run at No. 14 Oregon, Fenton scored twice and drove in two while also stealing two bases in the series opener against Mississippi. In game two Fenton batted a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, a home run and a stolen base. In the series finale, Fenton reached base twice, scored twice and stole two bases.
Traina continued her winning ways as she earned the win in three of the four games played last week, moving her season total to 15-0. Traina sported a 0.93 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 15 innings. She gave up a combined six hits in three games last week, allowed one run or less in each of the three games and the highest hit total was three.
Traina went the distance at No. 14 Oregon, striking out 10, while allowing an unearned run on three hits. She kept the Ducks hitless until the fifth inning. After allowing two hits in the first inning in the series finale vs. Mississippi, Traina retired the last 13 batters. At the plate Traina batted .333 (2-for-6) and tied for the team-high with five RBI.
Alabama will remain at home all week as it will host Tennessee in a crucial SEC doubleheader on Wednesday, March 21. First pitch of game one will start at 4 p.m., as both games will air on CSS. UA will then host the Easton Alabama Challenge and welcome DePaul and Longwood for a weekend tournament that will have the Tide playing four games.
