Tide Men's Golf Takes Tourney Lead

GREENSBORO, Ga. – The second-ranked Alabama men's golf team fired a 36-hole total of 12-under-par 564 on Sunday to take the lead on the opening day of the Linger Longer Invitational at the par-72, 7,073-yard Reynolds Plantation Great Waters Golf Course.



Alabama opened the day with a scorching 10-under-par round of 278 and followed it up with a 2-under-par 286 in the afternoon's second round. UA had an eight-stroke lead over co-host Kennesaw State at the conclusion of the first round and finished the second round with a five-stroke lead over Georgia, who shot a 7-under-par total of 569.

Chattanooga is in third place at 1-over-par 577 with Kennesaw State in fourth at 2-over 578 and Notre Dame in fifth at 6-over-par 582.

Alabama's Bobby Wyatt held the first-round lead with a 7-under-par 65, which marked a career-low in relation to par. He followed that with a 3-over 75 in the second round, finishing strong with two birdies over the final four holes. Wyatt is tied for fourth place after 36 holes, one-shot back of tri-leaders James Beale (Mercer), Jeff Karlsson (Kennesaw State) and Max Scodro (Notre Dame).

Freshman Justin Thomas tied for 11th place at 2-under-par 142. He opened with a 5-under-par 67 and was even par on his second round heading into the 36th hole of the day. Senior Hunter Hamrick carded an opening-round 73 and followed that up with a 2-under-par 70 in round two. He is tied for 15th position at 1-under-par 142.

Sophomore Cory Whitsett is in 20th place at even-par 144 after rounds of 73 and 71. Junior Scott Strohmeyer is tied for 33rd at 4-over 148 with rounds of 78 and 70.

Alabama will play with Georgia and Chattanooga in the final round of the Linger Longer Invitational on Sunday. The Crimson Tide will begin teeing off at 8:18 a.m. Sunday.
