Jennifer Kirby National Honoree

Alabama junior Jennifer Kirby was selected as the Golfweek and Golf World National Player of the Week both publications announced Tuesday. These accolades come after Kirby secured her first career individual victory this past weekend at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.

The field at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic featured 18 teams, including six from the Southeastern Conference. Kirby's play also helped lead the Crimson Tide to the overall team title this weekend, the third victory of the year for second-ranked Alabama.

Kirby, a native of Paris, Ontario, Canada, fired a 6-under-par 66 in the first round of the tournament on Friday, tying a tournament record. Kirby finished the weekend with a 7-under 209, the lowest 54 hole total in her career at Alabama.

Throughout the event, Kirby recorded 13 birdies, while dropping her season's scoring average to 72.13, which is good enough for second on the team, behind Brooke Pancake, and third in the SEC.

The University of Alabama women's golf team will return to action on April 20-22 for the SEC Championship. This year, the SEC Championship will be played at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark., and will be hosted by the University of Arkansas.
