Photo report: Construction update

Heavy rains the past week or two have delayed progress somewhat, but Saturday workmen were back on the job. Part of the brick of the existing building has been removed. Footings have been dug. And Saturday the concrete for those footings was being poured.

(Above left) The construction crews get in some overtime this weekend, working the Football Complex Building Annex on Saturday.

Workmen dig the pit for the footings. Light poles surrounding Alabama's practice field can be seen in the background.

Concrete for the Annex footings is poured. Expansion and remodeling will add over 30,000 square feet to the existing football building. In the background you can see part of the "short" practice fields and the corner of the Indoor Practice Facility.

The brick facade covering the utilities access area was removed late last week. Obviously the offices that border the new construction must be moved, but the building itself will remain in use throughout the process.

The old Tennis Stadium was demolished earlier this month. The floor of the stadium was not taken up and will serve as a storage/staging area for the construction project. When work is completed, this area will be added to the existing "short" practice fields adjacent to the Football Complex.

Recent rains have affected the construction work, but workmen were back on the job Saturday. The annex, including a state-of-the-art weight room taking up the entire the ground floor, is scheduled to be completed by next December.
