Traina Again SEC Pitcher Of Week

For the second consecutive week and the third time this season Alabama sophomore pitcher Jackie Traina (Naples, Fla.) was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Alabama sophomore pitcher Jackie Traina continued her winning ways as she earned the win in two of the three games this weekend, and pitched an inning of relief in the other. Both her wins came by the way of shutout to extend her consecutive wins streak to a school record 25 straight decisions.

For the week, Traina gave up five total hits and struck out 21 batters in 15 innings of work. The right-hander struck out eight and scattered four hits in a 6-0 shutout over ranked LSU on Friday and nearly tossed a no-hitter on Sunday, allowing a single hit in the sixth inning and fanning 12 en route to earning another 6-0 shutout win.

On the season Traina is a perfect 23-0 and sports a 1.21 ERA. The Naples, Fla., native has struck out 195 in 145 innings pitched and held opposing batters to a meager .168 average. Traina has struck out 10 or more six times this season and allowed two hits or less on 11 different occasions.

Alabama will remain at home for Southeastern Conference play as it will host South Carolina for a weekend series. The opening game of the three-game set will start on Friday with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.
