Magnolia State Quarterback talks spring game

Ryan Buchanan, three-star quarterback from Jackson (Prep) Miss., has six scholarship offers with several schools showing interest. The Magnolia State prospect spent two days in Tuscaloosa including watching the Tide's spring game.

"The visit to Alabama was awesome," said Ryan Buchanan. "I went to their spring game. I also went last week on Monday. I just wanted to go back for the game day atmosphere.

"It was crazy on A-Day with all the recruits and fans. They had 80,000 fans there. I was able to see some of the top guys in the country. I had a great time. They really know how to treat you over there.

Buchanan shared his thoughts of the game and observing many of the returning players from the 2011 BCS National Championship team.

"The spring game was awesome," he said. "It's almost like a game day atmosphere. I went on an unofficial visit last fall. When you are in the stadium you walked past thousands of people. It was really exciting.

"Coach Nussmeier told me they are putting in new stuff, and it takes a little bit of time to get everything down. I thought A.J. [McCarron] managed it real well. I think he will have a great year. T.J. Yeldon is a freshman running back. He had a really good spring game."

Buchanan spent some time with Alabama head coach Nick Saban in the previous visit to Tuscaloosa.

"Coach Saban talked about the program," Buchanan said. "He liked my film. He said a highlight film and in person can be totally different. They were impressed with my demeanor and how I handle myself. He said a quarterback in this class is a high priority."

Alabama's new offensive coordinator plans to visit Buchanan in the near future.

"Coach Nussmeier said he will visit me in a few weeks," Buchanan said. "I like Alabama a lot. They showed a lot of interest in me last fall. Then they changed offensive coordinators. I am starting to build a relationship with coach Nussmeier.

"Coach Nussmeier is showing a lot of interest in me. I don't have a scholarship from them right now though. Coach Saban wants to see me throw. When they see me throw coach Nussmeier said I will probably have an offer from them. I have a lot more interest in Alabama right now."

Buchanan will compete in the Elite 11 camp in Atlanta this weekend. He will attend the Ole Miss spring game in Oxford on Saturday.

Buchanan's offers include Arkansas, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Syracuse. He does not list any favorites at this time.
