Softball staff honored

The National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) has announced that University of Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy and his assistants Alyson Habetz and Vann Stuedeman have been named the NFCA South Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

"What is really nice about this award is that it is a 'coaching staff' of the year honor," said Murphy. "Aly and Vann were terrific all season and it is great to see them rewarded.

"When you get honored like this it solidifies what you are doing as a program. Others see us as doing the right thing and that is the ultimate goal."

Murphy led the Tide to a Top 25 ranking in a season that culminated in Alabama's second trip to the Women's College World Series in four years.

The honor is the second for Murphy's staff, which was also selected the South Region Coaching Staff of the Year at the conclusion of the 2000 season.

Murphy, Habetz and Stuedeman are now eligible for the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year award to be determined in early July.
