Melvin Jones talks Alabama offer

Melvin Jones, three-star linebacker from Lake Charles-Washington, La., added another major scholarship offer to his growing list. It was a 'wow' factor to learn the 2011 BCS National Champions has interest in his athletic ability.

"I was offered by Alabama today," said Melvin Jones. "I found out from coach Harrison. He pulled me out of class. He has talked to one of the coaches. They were here yesterday. Coach Nick Saban is going to call me tomorrow to make it official.

"The offer from Alabama, wow, I can't explain it. I don't even know what to say. Getting an offer form the national champions is crazy. I plan on going up there this summer."

Alabama is known for their defense which used big linebackers like Dont'a Hightower, Courtney Upshaw and Rolando McClain to win two BCS National Championships. The 6-foot-3, 248-pound prospect knows all about the Tide's style of play.

"I really like their defense," Jones said. "That's what stands out to me. They have big linebackers who go in the first round of the NFL Draft. I like that."

Several schools have offered scholarships including Alabama, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State. Jones does not list any favorites at this time.
