Parker McLeod visiting Alabama
"I was offered by Alabama last week," said Parker McLeod. "I talked to Coach Smart the night before. They told me to call coach Saban. He talked to me and offered me on Friday.
The University of Alabama received a commitment from Cooper Bateman in mid-May who is a four-star quarterback from Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City, Utah.
"Coach Saban talked to me about the program," McLeod continued. "He talked about being part of the two quarterback class. He said I would get an equal opportunity to compete, and they will play the best guy. He said I am not the second guy on their list."
McLeod has visited Tuscaloosa several times and was eager to hear from the Crimson Tide.
"It was very exciting," he said of the offer from Alabama. "I have been hoping to get one for a while. I went for a game last year and went to Junior Day. I really like it. I love the campus and facilities. I think the program is awesome. I think the opportunity to compete on the biggest stage is pretty exciting."
The Peach State product is open to the idea of signing in the same class as a higher-rated signal caller.
"I am fine with it," McLeod said. "As long as I get an equal opportunity to compete for the starting job I am fine with it. Hopefully I can beat him out once I am there if Alabama is where I decide to go.
A trip to Tuscaloosa could seal the deal with the only visit on the calendar next month.
"I am visiting Alabama next week," said McLeod. "I will either go over there on Sunday or Monday. That's the only visit I have planned right now. I think I will try to make my decision by the end of June."
Alabama is on McLeod's short list along with another out-of-state program.
"Oklahoma State and Alabama are my top two schools," he said. "I really like the coaches out at Oklahoma State. I also like the offense they run."
