Alabama No. 2 in pre-season Coaches' Poll

The Crimson Tide are ranked No. 2 in first USA Today/Coaches' Poll of the 2012 season, edged out of the top spot by none other than LSU. Alabama plays four teams ranked in the Top 25 this season, three of which are on the road.

The first USA Today/Coaches' Poll is out and Alabama is…

Ranked No. 2. Behind LSU. The team it beat 21-0 just six months ago in New Orleans for the National Championship.

But this is a pre-season poll and there will be a lot of moving and shaking before the final one comes out in January.

Alabama had more first place votes (20) than LSU (18), but the Tigers edged out the Crimson Tide for the No. 1 ranking in this poll by four points.

USC, Oklahoma and Oregon round out the top five, while Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, South Carolina and Arkansas make up the top 10. Alabama's first opponent, Michigan, is ranked No. 8.

There are five SEC teams ranked in the Top 10, which, of course, is no shocker.

The Tide play four teams in the Top 25, three of which are in the Top 10 this season in LSU (No. 1), Michigan (8), Arkansas (10) and Auburn (25). All of those games, except for Auburn, are on the road.
