The big time standout has impressed many college coaches throughout the nation this summer, and Barrows has fared very well at all the camps he's attended.
Things couldn't seem to get much better for a big time football recruit in his situation. The doors are wide open for him to be vastly successful at the collegiate level. So if everything is so great for Barrows right now, what could have possibly made him feel so awful, before I reached him by phone on late last week?
"I just got my wisdom teeth pulled this morning," Barrows said.
Anyone who has ever had the misfortune of undergoing that dental procedure, knows just how aggravating that it can really be. Nonetheless, Barrows was gracious enough to give me an updated leader-board, and also inform the TheInsiders.com subscribers about how the recruiting process has been going so far.
"Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, in that exact order. They are my favorites right now," Barrow said.
So what has put the Crimson Tide out in front at this juncture of the race?
"I went to Tuscaloosa for the A-Day game and enjoyed it a lot. Their coaches said that I can have my choice of positions as well. I prefer running back right now, and Georgia and Florida want me at safety."
Florida was the first school to offer Barrows earlier this year, and were considered the team to beat for quite some time. However, things change quickly in recruiting, and the Gators now find themselves mired behind two of their biggest SEC rivals for Barrows's signature.
Georgia is the only team in the final 3, that has yet to offer the McEachern star. Barrows ran a 4.6 40 time at the Bulldog camp last weekend, and he should know within the next week or two, whether or not Georgia will extend a scholarship his way.
Just how big is Alabama's lead right now?
"I'd say they are out in front pretty far. I like them a lot," was Barrow's reply.
That doesn't sound good for Mark Richt and Ron Zook if they want to land C.J. Barrows. Compounding the problems for the Dawgs and Gators even further, is that the Peach State star plans to commit well before Christmas.
"I'm committing somewhere on October 7th. That is the plan right now," Barrows added.
That puts an extremely short time period upon the schools hoping to catch Alabama. Georgia will need to offer if they expect to get back in it, and Florida will need to find the formula that made them CJ's leader early on.
This SEC grudge match will be fun to watch for recruitnicks everywhere.
