Former Tide WR Leads USA Jags

Joey Jones performed well enough for the Crimson Tide to be named to the 1980's All-Decade Team. He successfully transitioned to the sidelines after professional stints as a wide receiver with the USFL Birmingham Stallions and NFL Atlanta Falcons. Currently the South Alabama head coach, he spoke to the New Horizons Credit Union 1st and 10 Club Monday at Heron Lakes Country Club in Mobile.

The Port City native was hired on February 15, 2008 to create the program, Joey Jones has compiled a 23-4 record in the first three seasons. The South Alabama Jaguars have been competing since 2009 and are on course to make the complete transition to the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision level as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.

Jones spoke with 'BAMA Magazine/'BamaMag.com on his birthday about the state of the program, the lessons learned while under the tutelage of legendary Alabama Coach Paul W. Bryant and future scheduling against in-state SEC teams.
