Flip Game

While the conception of Alabama "selecting" its prospects instead of having to recruit them throughout the months and in some cases years leading up to National Signing Day is there, it is not necessarily true. For proof, just look at the amount of targets the Tide is still aiming for despite their commitments to other programs.

Alabama is sitting on 19 commitments at the moment, but the art of flipping will likely dictate more spots than not going forward. It has actually cost the Crimson Tide of late, with Brandon Hill switching his commitment to Ole Miss last week and fellow offensive lineman Andy Dodd going from Alabama to LSU before football season.

Despite the blow, and potentially costly losses, ‘Bama pushes forward with its own plethora of talented players committed elsewhere. See where each currently stands and which may be closer to flipping than originally considered.

Note: Players sorted by Scout.com rankings and ‘'commitment status'' will be gauged either solid, good, average, looking around or weak.

Reuben Foster, LB committed to Auburn

Commitment Status: Solid

The Latest: Georgia and Alabama continue to keep tabs on Foster, who was in Athens over the weekend. The news of Gene Chizik's firing of course puts a slight hit on his chances to sign with Auburn, but the assistant coaches are the story here. If most are retained, Foster will be tough to sway. As with all the Auburn pledges, stay tuned…

A'Shawn Robinson, DT committed to Texas

Commitment Status: Average

The Latest: Most feel that the massive impact player will stick with Texas, but he had planned an official visit to Alabama that fell through. Plans are to reportedly reschedule, but he has already been dropped down as a "soft" verbal to the Longhorns considering he has already visited Florida State officially since committing to UT.

Dee Liner, DT committed to Auburn

Commitment Status: Average

The Latest: Liner was in Tuscaloosa over the weekend for the Iron Bowl, and it's no secret that he is high on Alabama despite his pledge to its rival. Like several commits to AU, he's not divulging all of his plans, but it certainly bodes well for UA. Like Foster, the assistant coaches also play a big role in his status – so keep an eye out for the latest on which ones stick around.

Carl Lawson, DE committed to Auburn

Commitment Status: Looking

The Latest: Again, not everything is revealed this early in the post-Chizik process, but Lawson may have been looking around before the news broke on Sunday. Alabama is in the mix, but so are several schools including Clemson, where he took in their in-state rivalry over the weekend against South Carolina. Lawson is an edge rusher, purely, so there is some question as to where he would play at ‘Bama – but his talent for pestering quarterbacks has resulted in the staff keeping tabs on him all along.

Jalen Ramsey, CB committed to USC

Commitment Status: Solid

The Latest: Ramsey informed Scout.com that he remains "100 percent" committed to USC, but is still scheduled to take several official visits, including one to Alabama in January. He is just looking to make sure he's making the right decision, but an unofficial out to L.A. this weekend only made his pledge stronger. Alabama has plenty of work to do if a flip is to happen here.

Austin Golson, OL committed to Florida State

Commitment Status: Good

The Latest: Golson has been quoted as to be very much looking forward to playing at FSU next season, but he has also maintained that Alabama has been on him throughout the process. He has talked about getting on campus for an official visit and fully expects the staff to continue to push through National Signing Day on February 6.

Johnathan Ford, RB committed to Vanderbilt

Commitment Status: Good

The Latest: Ford went back to Vandy two weeks ago and loved his time out there. The staff made it clear that he was a priority. Ford reaffirmed his pledge on the visit, and he's sold on the program. Still, Alabama remains somewhat in the picture although an offer has not come through yet from the Crimson Tide. A caveat with a UA offer, should it come, is that Nick Saban and company view Ford as a defensive back while most others are courting the four-star as a running back.

Holland Fisher, OLB committed to Virginia Tech

Commitment Status: Good

The Latest: Fisher took an official visit to Alabama earlier this fall, but things have been quiet since. He has established a relationship with some ‘Bama pledges, particularly Demarcus Walker, who feels that the Tide has a great chance to land the versatile defender. Fisher may be ideal to the 2013 class should other linebackers like Foster and Matthew Thomas, who has yet to visit Tuscaloosa, elect to play elsewhere.

Hunter Henry, TE committed to Arkansas

Commitment Status: Average

The Latest: Henry knew the coaching change at Arkansas was coming, and has recently slowed things down. He took an official visit to Alabama and had a great time with Saban and company, though the Tide isn't alone in SEC schools with a shot at Henry along with Arkansas. Georgia remains somewhat in the mix, and a visit to Athens isn't out of the question. It may take some time to play out, but Henry wouldn't surprise many if he signed somewhere other than Arkansas in February.

Jeryl Brazil, CB committed to LSU

Commitment Status: Solid

The Latest: Brazil may be one of the longer shots on this list, but he has never ignored the interest from Alabama. He has also maintained that he wants to take an official visit to Alabama after football season, among other schools. Even with the plans, it would take a lot to get Brazil away from LSU considering how much he has been to Tiger Stadium this season and had nothing but great things to say about one of ‘Bama's biggest rivals.

Jonathan Cook, CB committed to Nebraska

Commitment Status: Average

The Latest: In the summer, not long after committing to Nebraska, Cook told Scout that his pledge " was just a verbal." Still, he hasn't backed off from Nebraska since. He has talked about taking visits to other schools on an official basis, and has been to Alabama unofficially this season. Cook does not yet have an offer from UA, and most believe the staff will only offer if looking by some of the higher-rated players on this list at defensive back. So don't expect anything from Cook's camp any time soon.

Marquez White, CB committed to Florida State

Commitment Status: Good

The Latest: White is enamored with FSU and grew up a fan of the Noles, but he is from Alabama and his family has long been tied to the University of Alabama. The UA offer came after he committed to FSU, so things have been back-and-forth ever since. It's a two-horse race for White, and it could drag out all the way until February – that's how close it truly is.
