Alabama native snags offer

This 2014 RB grew up an Alabama fan before moving to Texas, and the Crimson Tide made a big impression on him while at Junior Day.

Samaje Perine is originally from Jackson, Ala. although he is one of the top 2014 prospects in the Lone Star State. Already fielding offers from the big-time schools around where he currently resides, the big running back added a major offer from his childhood favorite school.

"Alabama offered me today," he informed Scout after taking in Junior Day in Tuscaloosa. "The day was really good!"

The extension, given by Nick Saban Saturday, will hold weight with Perine immediately.

"I felt really good about it," he said. "And when Coach Saban told me they only had two standout running backs, that made me very happy."

Perine added that his family, who were just as surprised to learn of the offer as he was, "loved it" that Alabama wants him on campus for good.

But heading into the weekend, the 6-foot, 215-pound Pflugerville (Tex.) Hendrickson High prospect was adamant that Oklahoma was his clear leader despite his initial interest in Alabama growing up and the rising possibility that an offer may come down.

However, with the offer now on the table, the game has somewhat changed.

"It's close between 'Bama and OU," he admitted. "It's because they (Alabama) offered and Coach (Saban) was talking to me about how they only have a few standouts on campus."

"I really have to get with coach [Burton] Burns to see what the running back situation was like," he continued. "And then I'll go from there."

Perine, who currently has no timetable for a decision, is currently ranked the No. 34 running back as a three-star prospect in the class of 2014 on FOX Sports NEXT/
