Alabama No. 4 in initial RQS rankings

The Crimson Tide gymnastics team is ranked No. 4 in the initial regional qualifying score rankings (RQS).

For the second week in a row, Alabama gymnastics is ranked No. 4 in the nation.

This week, the scoring/ranking system shifted from averaging all of a team's scores to regional qualifying scores. RQS is based on a team's six best regular season scores, three of which must be from road meets. To calculate RQS, the highest score is eliminated and the remaining five are averaged together. Neither the Crimson Tide's score of 197.650 against Auburn (its best score) nor its season-opening score of 196.450 at Missouri (its lowest road score) were included.

This system is used to determine a team's seeding and placement in the NCAA Regional Championships (April 6).

Alabama comes in at No. 4 with a score of 196.810. The rest of the top five consists of No. 1 Oklahoma (197.410), No. 2 Florida (197.280), No. 3 Michigan (196.975) and No. 5 LSU (196.770).

The Tide hosts No. 6 UCLA (196.720) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Coleman Coliseum.

In the event rankings, Alabama is third on the vault (49.350), sixth on uneven bars (49.195), sixth on balance beam (49.105) and fourth on floor exercises (49.315).

Individually, junior Diandra Milliner is tied for seventh on the vault (9.900), junior Sarah DeMeo is tied for seventh on the uneven bars (9.885) and junior Kim Jacob is ranked fifth on floor exercise (9.905).
