Alabama has already hosted a pair of Junior Days for the class of 2014 cycle, but that doesn't mean there aren't big visit days head. While many elite juniors will wait to check out Tuscaloosa again for the A-Day game in April, the quality talent that is headed to Tuscaloosa on Saturday may as well be considered another big weekend for the Crimson Tide.
Headlining the expected visitors is a Louisiana pair that is the latest to check out Nick Saban's program. After top prospects like Cameron Robinson, Cameron Sims, Garrald McDowell and many others from the Bayou State attended Junior Days, New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine prospects Leonard Fournette and Jermaine Roberts have yet to take in the campus recently.
Roberts was offered this spring while Fournette, the newly crowned top player in the class of 2014 rankings by FOX Sports NEXT/Scout.com, has been a top 'Bama target for nearly two years. Running backs coach Burton Burns has been scouting him since his freshman season and all the 6-foot-2, 227-pound back has done is ascend to the top of the charts regardless of position. LSU is still considered the favorite, after being first to offer and its proximity/pipeline to the Tigers, though Alabama is right on its heels.
Fournette is the nation's No. 1 talent.
What the Tigers have not done is offer Roberts, a fast-rising junior cornerback with big-play ability. Alabama has, and that may be another edge it uses in trying to lure a player from LSU's backyard to T-town.
A pair from the state of Georgia are also expected to be in town. Each is a fast-riser over the winter and each is high on Alabama.
Hybrid outside linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams (pictured at the top) has picked up plenty of offers since bursting onto the scene in 2012, including from Alabama. Florida State offered the Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove standout on Friday morning, though he has already released a top 10 list of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, Auburn, Arkansas, Wisconsin, and North Carolina State. The list was released in order, so the Crimson Tide has some work to do to move up from the No. 3 spot it currently sits in.
Dante Sawyer, of Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett High, is looking to make a decision this summer and he's already informed FOX Sports NEXT/Scout.com that he's pretty sure which school he is likely to commit to. Days later, he named Alabama his leader before letting the public know he's going to be in Tuscaloosa over the weekend. Is it a smokescreen for another school he's planning to pledge to or has Alabama all but wrapped-up his verbal? The weekend should provide a glimpse into the details of those things and more for Sawyer.
"I love it, I love it," Sawyer said of Tuscaloosa in the fall. "I don't know…it's just a good feeling every time I go up there."
While the four big-time visitors headline the weekend, there are always a few surprises that may pop-up during this time of year when unofficial visits are often spur-of-the moment decisions.
As always, BamaMag.com and FOX Sports NEXT/Scout.com will stay on top of things as stories develop.
