Tide Golf Teams National Honorees

Golfweek Magazine should be having good sales in Tuscaloosa this week. The magazine has selected both the second-ranked Alabama men's golf team and the second-ranked Crimson Tide women's team as the publication's National Team of the Week. It is the second consecutive week for the women to be selected. Additionally, Bama men's star Justin Thomas was named Player of the Week.

Thomas was individual winner and the Alabama men's team posted a 10-shot victory over fourth-ranked Texas to win the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. It was Bama's third tournament championship this season.

The Crimson Tide women won their second consecutive tournament and fourth of the season at the Gator Women's Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.

The Alabama men of Coach Jay Seawell have won two of three events this spring with a runner-up finish at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. The Crimson Tide also won the Puerto Rico Classic.

Thomas shot a 9-under-par 207 for a three-shot win individually. It was Thomas's sixth career tournament victory, which moved him past former Tide great and PGA professional Steve Lowery for the most wins in Alabama golf history. It took Lowery 44 events to set the record of five and Thomas only 20-career events to win his sixth medalist honor. Thomas leads the team with a 70.83 scoring average and is cumulative 13-under-par for the season.

Alabama returns to action this weekend looking for its third straight team title at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.

The Alabama women of Coach Mic Potter had to stage a back-nine comeback to win in Gainesville, beating Oklahoma by three shots and the home-standing Gators by five. Alabama's final round 286 equaled the lowest round in the 15-team field on Sunday.

The win gave Alabama its first win at the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational and four wins in five tournaments dating back to the fall schedule. The Tide has won back-to-back event with a victory Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and then with win in Gainesville, Fla.

The Crimson Tide has four weeks off before returning to play at the PING ASU Invitational on April 12-14 at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
