Back To The Fun Of Spring Football

Alabama Coach Nick Saban allowed the media to watch all of spring football practice Monday, including the secret plays that were being installed and all the position changes that are being made. April Fool! But reporters did get to see a couple of practice periods.

Alabama was in full gear on a very warm day as the Crimson Tide returned to the practice field following spring break. It was Bama's fifth workout of the 15 allowed this spring. There will be a scrimmage (closed to the public) Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Spring training concludes with the A-Day Game at the stadium on April 20.

There were a few former players watching, including Jack Rutledge (later a long-time assistant coach) from the 1960s and recent stars Mark Ingram and Damion Square. In between those groups was Bobby Humphrey, the fine running back from the 1980s, and he was accompanied by his son, Marlon. Marlon is an upcoming senior cornerback and one of the top prospects in the nation.

As had been the case prior to spring break, and will likely be the case throughout the spring, end Kevin Norwood and cornerback Jonathan Fulton were in black jerseys and not dressed for football. Both are recovering from surgery to repair turf toe injuries and were riding stationary bicycles.

We'll have more after talking to Coach Saban later today.
