Alabama Softball Downs UAB 11-0
Alabama banged out 14 hits, led by junior Kaila Hunt's 3-for-4 effort. Hunt added two runs and drove in two while freshman Haylie McCleney batted 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
Sophomore Leslie Jury (13-3) earned the win, going the full six innings without allowing a run while scattering four hits and striking out five.
After knocking on the door in the first inning but unable to push a run through the Tide scored four runs - all with two outs in the second to take the early lead.
Senior Keima Davis started the scoring by racing home on a throwing error by the shortstop. Hunt then singled up the middle to score two before junior Molly Fichtner drilled another double, this time scoring Hunt all the way from first.
The Tide tacked on three more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. Fichtner hit a bloop single to right that was mishandled by Orr that enabled Hunt to score all the way from first. Junior Jackie Traina then singled up the middle to score pinch-runner Andrea Hawkins, before sophomore Danae Hays singled to right-center to score pinch-runner Kallie Case.
Freshman Leona Lafaele ended the game with her first career grand slam, a two-out shot that hit the shed beyond the wall. The home run was her third on the season.
Alabama will have the weekend off before returning to Rhoads Stadium to host a midweek contest against Southern Miss. The two teams will meet on Tuesday, April 16, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
