Zach Whitley gave his verbal pledge to the University of Alabama.
The four-star linebacker prospect, who stands as a top 10 player in Texas, is the No. 4 linebacker nationally on FOX Sports NEXT/Scout.com.
"Zach is a very consistent performer and a difference maker on the defensive side of the ball," said FOX Sports NEXT National Recruiting Analyst Greg Powers. "Watching him on tape you clearly see that he is a player that the opposing offense account for on each snap. He is very athletic and will come downhill and attack the run, but also has the ability to drop in to coverage and run with speedy players out of the backfield."
"His ability to be a player who could succeed in multiple schemes and possibly at multiple positions," Powers continued. "Rated as a MLB, he could also play OLB if need be. That versatility and skill set may make it easier for him to see the field early in college. He could be an impact player on special teams coverage as a freshman."
The pledge comes on the heels of Whitley's visit to Tuscaloosa for the A-Day game on April 20, in which Alabama raised its chances during the weekend.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder out of Galena Park (Tex.) North Shore High is the second class of 2014 linebacker prospect to commit to Alabama, joining Montgomery (Ala.) Carver three-star Shaun Hamilton on the commitment list.
