Paige turning focus to 'Bama

It's been a long road between a pair of high schools, an intense summer course and plenty of extra time to wait for Darius Paige - but he finally got word from the NCAA over the weekend that he is good to go.

"I'm cleared and I'm almost there!" Darius Paige told on Sunday evening.

The news was simple to report, yet not any less big for the 2013 four-star Alabama signee out of Foley (Ala.) High School.

The 6-foot-4, 292-pound defensive tackle endured a high school transfer before his senior season, constant speculation around his academic progress and much more before learning of the NCAA ruling to accept enough credits to qualify academically for college.

Paige said he passed a summer English class, completed online, with a B - which was all he was told he needed to get in.

"I was very excited when I found out," he added. "I found out on Friday. I think I get started on Monday, I guess."

Paige was a Semper Fi All-American Bowl selection.

When the news came down, Paige quickly began planning his trip to Tuscaloosa in order to move in on campus. There, he will spend plenty of time with a pair of teammates from the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.

"I'm rooming with Johnny Cook (not on campus yet - academics), Ardarius Stewart and Jonathan Allen," he said. "I'm close with Cook and Stewart."

While the reunion with fellow signees and introduction to the rest of the current Alabama roster will be some fun, the coaching staff has also gotten ahold of him since the good news came down and it may be some of the opposite for the freshman.

Said Paige, "They said congratulations and get ready to play and work hard."

FOX Sports NEXT/ ranked Paige as the No. 23 defensive tackle prospect nationally in the class of 2013.
