Straightening Out New Tide Numbers
Alabama has 26 newcomers on its roster. We got a look at some of those in spring practice, learning that Derrick Henry was number 3, Cooper Bateman 18, etc.
First to the mea culpa…the players with numbers not predicted in the 'BAMA Football Yearbook:
Running back Alvin Kamara is number 1, not number 6.
Wide receiver Eddie Jackson is number 5, not number 8.
Defensive back Maurice Smith is 21, not 4.
Wide receiver Robert Foster is 8, not 16.
Defensive back Jonathan Cook 15 not 21.
Running back Altee Tenpenny 23 not 21.
Defensive lineman Dee Liner 52 not 25.
Linebacker Walker Jones 40 not 35.
Running back Tyren Jones 20 not 42.
Snapper Cole Mazza is 55 not 51.
Defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson, 86 not 67.
Defensive lineman Darius Paige, 91 not 79.
The media guide roster also verified that junior college transfer offensive tackle Leon Green, who took part in spring drills but who had been rumored as perhaps no longer being on the team, is, indeed, a member of the Crimson Tide.
Also, non-scholarshipped quarterback Edward Aldag, who was number 14 on the Alabama spring roster, is number 14 on the fall roster; walk-on linebacker Matt Tinney is 43, not 47 as he was at A-Day; and walk-on offensive lineman Harold Nicholson is 59, not 64 as he was in the spring.
We got a few right:
93 defensive lineman Jonathan Allen
28 wide receiver Anthony Averett
18 quarterback Cooper Bateman
72 offensive tackle Leon Brown
14 quarterback Luke Del Rio
80 wide receiver Raheem Falkins
2 linebacker Reuben Foster
3 running back Derrick Henry
73 offensive lineman Brandon Hill
64 offensive lineman Grant Hill
88 tight end O.J. Howard
15 quarterback Parker McLeod
19 walk-on safety Jai Miller
13 athlete Ardarius Stewart
56 linebacker Tim Williams
