Camp Quotebook

Alabama hosted nearly 1,000 prospects for its July camp this week, and BamaMag.com continues to bring you reaction from the event. Hear from several Crimson Tide prospects inside.

Nick Saban's final camp of the summer wrapped-up on Wednesday, but the returns from the event are still pouring in on Bamamag.com. Hear from some well-known commodities in our camp quotebook.

  • Cameron Sims | WR | Monroe (La.) Ouachita Parish | Class of 2014

The No. 9 wideout in the rising senior class spent the duration of the four days on campus, hanging out with players and coaches in between taking part in select sessions.

"I was chilling with one of the players on the first night," he said. "Then things were good after that. It was a nice camp."

  • Nigel Bethel | CB | Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington | Class of 2014

The under-sized three-star is one of the top pure cover guys in the Sunshine State with the offer list to back that up.

"It was good, I learned some new things technique wise that I can use to take my game to another level," said Bethel. "I talked to Coach [Nick] Saban and [Mario] Cristobal.

"They said I'm an SEC player, give them serious consideration and they will take a look at my film and have a meeting with the coaching staff in the next two weeks to let me know if they'll be offering or not."

  • Kerryon Johnson | RB/DB | Madison (Ala.) Academy | Class of 2015

Arguably the top player in the state for the junior class is one of the staff's top targets as either a running back or defensive back.

"It was very good!" he said of the camp. "The workout was good, but the facilities were absolutely amazing. All the new stuff they put in is impressive."

The top priority sat down with Saban before heading back up north.

"We had a good talk about a couple of things," said Johnson. "Just my future and how I did things at camp and stuff like that."

The versatile talent says "it's still 50/50" as to whether the Tide will look for him to play running back over defensive back, which he ultimately prefers.

  • Daron Payne | DT | Irondale (Ala.) Shades Valley | Class of 2015

If Johnson isn't the top player in the state for 2015, it may be Payne - who stayed for all four days of the 'Bama camp. Several of our sources informed us that he was simply dominant, with one telling Bamamag that he "is just the man."

"I tried to dominate," Payne admitted with a laugh. "But I thought I did good."

  • Shawn Burgess-Becker | WR/DB | Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch | Class of 2015

A big-bodied two-way talent from talent-rich South Florida, he worked out on offense this week.

"I did pretty good," said Burgess-Becker. "I did a little bit of everything, they like me a lot.

"The coaches and the campus stood out."

  • John Wilkerson | WR/DB | Bessemer City (Ala.) | Class of 2014

This two way-talent from nearby Bessemer worked out on the defensive side of the ball for Alabama coaches.

"I was good, the coaches liked me." he said. "Coach Greg Brown worked with me and he said 'I like you. I've seen your film, keep working and I'll be in touch.'

"There was a lot of good competition out there."
