Tide Grad Picked For SEC Academics
Under its SECU banner, the Southeastern Conference sponsors, supports and promotes collaborative higher education programs and activities involving administrators, faculty and students at its 14 member universities.
Welbourne will be involved in all facets of SECU, including primary responsibility for developing and implementing its communications and social media agendas. He will also manage the SECU's web presence while overseeing various programs and events.
The University of Alabama graduate earned his B.A. in communication and information sciences with a concentration in public relations.
Welbourne will begin his new role with the Southeastern Conference in August.
"We are pleased Bryant will be joining the Southeastern Conference staff to support SECU," Slive said. "His background and skills will enable us to continue to grow our unique academic initiative."
Welbourne comes to the SEC from the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation, where he served as the marketing and web assistant. There he managed several web sites and was responsible for maintaining a number of communications tools, including a newsletter and social media platforms. He also provided on-site support for several rowing competitions.
"I am very grateful for and excited about this wonderful opportunity with the SEC's academic initiative," Welbourne said. "I have a full appreciation of the tradition and impact of the SEC and it is an honor to be able to contribute to the future success of the league."
Prior to joining the Boathouse Foundation, Welbourne was a public relations intern at McNeely Pigott & Fox in Nashville, Tennessee.
