Tide's Talley Wins In Women's Amateur

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Alabama sophomore Emma Talley won two matches on Thursday at the 2013 U.S. Women's Amateur to advance to the quarterfinals at the par-71, 6,488-yard Charleston Country Club.



Talley, from Goshen, Ky., defeated Indonesia's Tatiana Wijaya in her first match of the day 8 and 7, closing out the match on the 11th hole. She followed that up with a victory in her round of 16 match, scoring a 2 up win over Mexico's Maria Fassi.

Alabama redshirt freshman Cammie Gray of Northport won her second round match 1 up in 19 holes over Arkansas's Emily Tubert to propel her into the round of 16. She was eliminated in the afternoon match, falling to Australia's Su-Hyun Oh 5 and 4.

Talley is slated to take on Oh in the quarterfinals on Friday with the match starting at 1:15 p.m. The semifinals will be held on Saturday with the finals on Sunday. The last Alabama player to reach the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur was Brooke Pancake in 2011.
