Cary Clark Prepares For Friday Football

It's that time of year, folks. You can smell the aroma of freshly cut grass. Chalk lines are being laid. Bleachers (and press boxes) are being spruced up. Concession stands volunteers are being called on. Yep. It's time for high school football in the state of Alabama. And with that, Friday Night Lights is glad to be once again prowling sidelines and eating press box food at a stadium near you.

As always, we'll have look at top recruits in the states, particularly those seriously considering Alabama. We'll endeavor to discover underclassmen not yet in the limelight. And we'll have food reviews, be it a local restaurant or a stadium burger.

Here is the planned schedule for FNL, 2013 on BamaMag.com:

8/30: Colquitt County (Ga.) at Hoover: FNL has written about all-world corner Marlon Humphrey for three years now, but this contest takes on a whole new aura when one considers it's the first official trip back to Hoover for former Bucs coach Rush Propst. There are plenty of prospects on both squads.

9/6: Northridge at Hillcrest: Though a brief pledge to Mississippi State, Alabama legacy Keith Holcombe is now a firm Tide commitment. He and his Hillcrest Patriots will face a Northridge squad depleted by transfers, having lost Bo Scarborough first to Tuscaloosa County and now IMG in Florida.

9/13: Briarwood at Homewood: This game marks our first look at Patriots guard Jordan Sims, who is in constant contact with the Alabama staff, and could still find a spot in the '14 group.

9/20: Prattville at Thompson: The Lions feature unsung running back Kamryn Pettway, an Auburn pledge built like Bo Jackson. Word is Prattville has some underclassmen to watch. FNL will clue you in.

9/27: Calera at Shelby County: By this date, we may know the eventual destination of star Calera safety Ronnie  Clark (no relation), who is considered an Alabama lean. It will be FNL's first trip to Columbiana.

10/4: Hewitt-Trussville at Shades Valley: Few members of the state's 2015 class have garnered the off-season attention of Mounties d-lineman Daron Payne. Is the 315-pounder the real deal? We'll see.

10/11: Lee (Montgomery) at Carver: He's got one of the more fun names of the '14 class, but Carver linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton is a firm Tide pledge who brings the lumber.

10/18: St. Paul's at Vigor: In just the second trip ever for FNL to Prichard, we'll check out Wolves '15 running back/Tide commit DeSherrius Flowers. St. Paul's features center Josh Casher and linebacker Tre' Williams, who is currently an Auburn pledge. Casher decommitted from the Tigers to consider Bama and Florida State.

10/25: Bye week for FNL to recharge batteries and get ready for the postseason.

10/31: In a rare Thursday night game, Bama pledge/Opelika cornerback Stephen Roberts will get to compare his wares with the only corner in the state rated higher, the Bucs' Humphrey, not to mention junior linebacker Darrel Williams and sophomore running back Braderick Shaw.

11/1: Pinson Valley at Briarwood: Indians junior running back Nick Gibson has attracted attention from recruiters all over the south, including both in state schools.

11/8: Playoffs. Teams/games will be determined by prospects that emerge and have not yet been covered.
