Tide Golf Fans Can Join In Celebration

Alabama golf fans have a chance to be a part of the celebration of the Crimson Tide's 2013 national championship in men's golf while helping honor the memory of the later former golf coach, Conrad Rehling. Alabama golf will host the ninth annual Crimson Tide Open on Oct. 25 at the Jerry Pate Golf Center in the Ol' Colony Golf Complex.

The Crimson Tide Open will be held in conjunction with the Alabama's celebration of the 2013 NCAA National Championship that will be held on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 24, inside The Zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Members of the 2012-13 Alabama men's golf team will then get their 2013 national championship rings on Saturday, Oct. 26, during the Alabama-Tennessee football game.

"The Crimson Tide Open is a great way for our alumni, friends and boosters of the program to get together and share memories of their time at The Capstone," Alabama Coach Jay Seawell said. "It is also a way for us to remember Coach Rehling while helping us establish an endowed scholarship in his name.

"This year we will also have the opportunity to celebrate the Alabama men's first national championship. It will be a special time for the entire Alabama golf family to come together to recognize not only last year's team, but all of the players that came before who helped establish this program's legacy."

The festivities get started Thursday, Oct. 24, at The Zone inside Bryant-Denny Stadium with an evening recognizing the Crimson Tide's 2013 NCAA National Championship.

The Crimson Tide Open kicks off with a barbecue lunch at the complex before play begins at noon on Oct. 25, with a shotgun start. Following the competition, there will be an awards ceremony and a cocktail party at the Jerry Pate Golf Center. The cost to participate in the CTO is $1,200 for a four-man team or $300 for an individual.

The format of the event is a four-man scramble and the grand prize is a two-night trip to Phoenix, Ariz., to the PING headquarters for 36 holes of golf and custom golf clubs. The trip includes airfare and hotel for two people. Other prizes include golf clubs, Alabama golf gear, golf trips, Alabama basketball tickets, and more.

The Crimson Tide Open started as a tribute to former Alabama Golf Coach Conrad Rehling. Rehling coached the Tide from 1972 to 1988 and was instrumental in moving Alabama golf into the national landscape. Coach Rehling led the Crimson Tide to its first SEC Championship in 1979 and won Coach of the Year twice in the league in 1979 and 1983. Rehling was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame in 1980.
