11 Tiders Cited For Play Vs. Bulldogs

One can't help but wonder how many Alabama players would have been selected by the Crimson Tide coaching staff for player of the week honors if Bama had played a good game against Mississippi State. Alabama took a 20-7 win over the Bulldogs in Starkville, and many would have thought the two-touchdown Southeastern Conference road win was a loss.

But following the coaches' examination of the game videotape, 11 Alabama football players were recognized by the staff for their performances following Saturday night's win at Mississippi State.

Brian Vogler and T.J. Yeldon were named players of the week on offense.

HaHa Clinton-Dix, C.J. Mosley, A'Shawn Robinson and Jarrick Williams represented the defense.

Landon Collins, Cade Foster, Dee Hart, Cody Mandell and DeAndrew White were on the special teams list.

Mosley was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week while Mandell earned SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors along with Ray Guy National Player of the Week recognition.

Vogler had Alabama's first touchdown of the game from 18 yards out to put the Crimson Tide up 10-0 just before the half. The score was the first of his career. Yeldon was the game's leading rusher with 160 yards on 24 carries, good for an average of 6.7 yards per rush. He had a long run of 50 yards and also caught one pass for six yards.

The defense limited the Bulldogs to just 197 total yards and seven points, which marked the eighth time this season an opponent has been held to 10 or fewer points. Clinton-Dix notched four tackles and had a key interception in the endzone to stop a Mississippi State drive late in the third quarter. Mosley led the team with eight total tackles (six solo) and was also credited with a forced fumble. He is now seventh on the UA all-time list for tackles with 290. Robinson recorded five tackles (three solo) and had his fifth sack of the season, which leads the team. Williams finished the night with five tackles and also broke up a pass.

Mandell had an outstanding night punting in windy conditions, averaging 55.0 yards on four punts. He booted career-longs of 63 and 61 yards, both of which were downed inside the Mississippi State five yard line. The Bulldogs punt return man planned to return one punt, but he was hit and fumbled and the "return" was for minus 15 yards. Foster was perfect on both of his field goal attempts, connecting from 33 and 35 yards. He added two touchbacks on five kickoffs. Hart recorded a tackle on kickoff coverage at the MSU 24. Collins' coverage on a punt was key on the fumble that went back 15 yards and he finished the game with five total tackles. He also combined to help down a punt at the three in the fourth quarter. White is the off kick returner and plays on the punt team where he knocked a ball out of bounds at the two.

Mosley is the leader in player of the week honors with nine selections through 10 games. Next up with six weekly honors each are Collins, Foster, and White.
