Mosley 10 For 11 In Coaches Honors
Alabama ran its record to 11-0 with its 49-0 win over Chattanooga Saturday in the final home game for C.J. Mosley and 14 other Alabama seniors. And for the team-leading 10th time this year, Mosley was one of the Crimson Tide players recognized by the Bama coaching staff for his performance.
Three seniors on offense were selected. They are quarterback A.J. McCarron, wide receiver Kevin Norwood, and offensive guard Anthony Steen.
Joining Mosley on defense as a player of the week were freshman lineman Jonathan Allen and sophomore safety Landon Collins.
Special teams selections were Dee Hart, Christion Jones, Reggie Ragland, Geno Smith, and Altee Tenpenny.
McCarron completed 13-of-16 passes for 171 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in just over two quarters of play. Norwood was on the receiving end of four of those passes for a total of 84 yards. He caught a 28-yard touchdown from McCarron in the second quarter to put the Crimson Tide up 28-0. Steen earned the top grade on the offensive line at 93 per cent and did not have a sack, a pressure, or any missed assignments. The three fifth-year seniors improved their overall record to 60-5 in their Alabama careers.
The Crimson Tide defense recorded its third shutout of the season and limited UTC to just 175 total yards. Allen was credited with three tackles, two for loss, and also forced a fumble. The forced fumble, which was returned 35 yards to the Chattanooga six-yard line, set up UA's final score of the game. Collins and Mosley led the team with seven tackles each. Mosley had two tackles for loss while Collins assisted on a stop behind the line of scrimmage. Alabama has held nine of 11 opponents this season to 10 points or less and ranks first nationally in scoring defense, allowing 9.3 points per game.
Jones recorded his second punt return for a touchdown this season as he found the end zone from 75 yards out to give the Tide a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Hart and Tenpenny were credited with key blocks on the return. Jones and Hart were credited with tackles on kickoff coverage while Smith and Tenpenny both had tackles inside the 20. Ragland contributed with two stops inside the 20 on kickoff and also played well on the punt return and kickoff return teams.
In addition to Mosley being honored for the 10th time this year, Collins is next with seven, followed by Cade Foster, Jones, and DeAndrew White with six weekly honors each.
By the way -- the one game in which Mosley was not selected as one of the players of the week was Bama's win over Tennessee.
